چکیده

We have undertaken a systematic study of thermal conductivity as a function of temperature and magnetic field of single crystals of the compound (La12zPrz)1.2Sr1.8Mn2O7 for z(Pr)50.2,0.4, and 0.6. The lattice distortion due to Pr substitution and anisotropic thermal conductivity in bilayer manganites are discussed on the basis of different relaxation models of local lattice distortions in metal and insulating states proposed by Medarde et al. The giant magnetothermal effect is scaled as a function of magnetization and discussed on the basis of a systematic variation of the occupation of the eg-electron orbital states due to Pr substitution.

Anomalously large anisotropic magnetoresistance in a perovskite manganite.

The signature of correlated electron materials (CEMs) is the coupling between spin, charge, orbital and lattice resulting in exotic functionality. This complexity is directly responsible for their tunability. We demonstrate here that the broken symmetry, through cubic to orthorhombic distortion in the lattice structure in a prototype manganite single crystal, La(0.69)Ca(0.31)MnO(3), leads to an...

Localization and Dephasing Driven by Magnetic Fluctuations in Low Carrier Density Colossal Magnetoresistance Materials

Localization and dephasing of conduction electrons in a low carrier density ferromagnet due to scattering on magnetic fluctuations is considered. We claim the existence of the ”mobility edge”, which separates the states with fast diffusion and the states with slow diffusion; the latter is determined by the dephasing time. When the ”mobility edge” crosses the Fermi energy a large and sharp chang...

Colossal magnetoresistance

We review recent experimental work falling under the broad classification of colossal magnetoresistance (CMR), which is magnetoresistance associated with a ferromagnetic-toparamagnetic phase transition. The prototypical CMR compound is derived from the parent compound, perovskite LaMnO3. When hole doped at a concentration of 20–40% holes/Mn ion, for instance by Ca or Sr substitution for La, the...

Reentrant spin glass transition in La0.96−yNdyK0.04MnO3: origin and effects on the colossal magnetoresistivity

– Magnetic, electric and structural properties of La0.96−yNdyK0.04MnO3+δ with 0≤ y ≤0.4 have been studied experimentally. A disordered magnetic state is formed as La is substituted by Nd, reflecting the competition between ferromagnetic (FM) double exchange and antiferromagnetic superexchange interactions. Key structural parameters are identified and correlated with changes in magnetic and elec...

Spin-lattice Correlations and Temperature Dependent Mn JT-edge Structure in the Lai_xCaxMnO3 Systems

The Lai^Ca^MnOs system exhibits novel transport properties and unusual correlations between local distortions, magnetism, and the electronic structure. A large distortion, parameterized by the width of the pair distribution function, a, develops as T is increased through Tc for values of jc roughly from 0.2-0.5 (the colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) regime); we associate this change of the local...
